Komodo day trip vs liveaboard: what you get for each extra night

Updated 10 October 2026

A day trip on Vinca costs IDR 50,000,000 (≈ USD 3,067) for the whole boat and covers three stops. A 2D1N adds the bats and a Padar sunrise, a 3D2N adds mantas and the sandbar, and a 4D3N adds Gili Lawa, Mawan and a beach dinner. Open-trip cabins start at IDR 6,950,000 (≈ USD 426) per person.

The four lengths side by side

Vinca sails four lengths: one day, two days and one night, three days and two nights, and four days and three nights. The table sets the four lengths side by side. The sums below give the prices.

The short version: one day is IDR 50,000,000 (≈ USD 3,067). Two days and one night is IDR 90,000,000 (≈ USD 5,521). Three days and two nights is IDR 100,000,000 (≈ USD 6,135). Four days and three nights is IDR 120,000,000 (≈ USD 7,362). At ten guests those work out to IDR 5,500,000 (≈ USD 337), IDR 9,500,000 (≈ USD 583), IDR 10,500,000 (≈ USD 644) and IDR 12,500,000 (≈ USD 767) each.

Notice the jump between 2D1N and 3D2N. It is the smallest on the table, which makes the third day the cheapest day you can add. Only the 3D2N is also sold cabin by cabin, from IDR 6,950,000 (≈ USD 426) per person.

One day: three stops and a long sail

The day trip covers Padar, Pink Beach and Komodo between 09:30 and 20:00. You get the ridge viewpoint, a snorkel and a ranger-led walk among the dragons. You do not get a sunrise, bats, mantas or a night on the water.

A phinisi cruises at 8 to 12 knots, so much of the day is spent under way. A speedboat covers the same three stops with less sailing and more shore time, and we do not sell one on this site. If minutes at each stop are what you are after, we are the wrong boat for the day trip.

Take the day trip when you have exactly one day, a flight at each end and no appetite to sleep aboard. Take anything longer if you can spare it.

The first night: bats, sunrise and a pause

The 2D1N adds a night at anchor, and with it two things the day trip cannot have. At dusk on day one the flying foxes leave the mangroves at Kalong. At dawn on day two you climb Padar for sunrise, not for midday heat.

It also adds the pause that makes the rest feel like a holiday: dinner at the long table, a night in a cabin, and a breakfast after the climb instead of before it. The price is a long overnight crossing from Kalong to Padar, 3 to 4 hours, and a quick second day.

You get one of Manta Point or Taka Makassar, not both. The 2D1N is right for people who want sunrise and bats and have only one night to give.

The second night: mantas, the sandbar and the heavy day

The 3D2N adds Manta Point, Taka Makassar and Sebayur on day one, and gives day two to Padar, Long Beach, Komodo, Pimpe and the bats. It is the only length that runs as both an open trip and a charter.

Mantas are likelier from December to February and from July to September, and never guaranteed. Taka Makassar is a sandbank that shows at low tide, so the captain swaps its order with Manta Point on the day. Day two is the heavy one: sunrise climb, snorkel, trek, island walk and bats in one stretch.

If you have three days, take this one. A tour guide and photo documentation are part of the open trip; on a private charter they are excluded and added on request.

The third night: slower, not longer

The 4D3N adds Gili Lawa, Mawan, a second snorkel at Sebayur and a beach dinner on the sand. It does not add much to the list of famous places. What it adds is air. Day two stays full, but the rest of the trip loosens, and the last morning is a snorkel, not a dash.

It is a charter only, from IDR 120,000,000 (≈ USD 7,362) for the smallest band, and the beach dinner is part of the fare. Three nights also means three nights of motion on a boat without stabilisers. A first-time sailor should try the 3D2N first.

The 4D3N suits couples who want the dinner, families who tire by the second afternoon, and snorkellers who want more water. It does not suit a tight schedule.

Open trip or whole boat: the arithmetic

For one or two people, a cabin on the open trip is cheaper. A Western or Japanese room is IDR 8,500,000 (≈ USD 521) per person and a Balinese room is IDR 6,950,000 (≈ USD 426), 3D2N only, on Monday & Friday. Two people on a whole-boat 3D2N pay IDR 50,000,000 (≈ USD 3,067) each.

For a larger party, the whole boat wins. At fourteen guests a 3D2N works out to IDR 7,860,000 (≈ USD 482) each, and at 18 guests it is IDR 7,220,000 (≈ USD 443). You also choose the date, the length and the guest list.

Park fees apply to all of it: IDR 250,000 per foreign guest per day and IDR 50,000 per Indonesian guest, plus ranger and other levies.

FAQ

What is the cheapest way to see Padar and the dragons?

The open-trip Balinese room, at IDR 6,950,000 (≈ USD 426) per person for a 3D2N, is the lowest-priced seat aboard. Park fees come on top. A whole-boat day trip costs IDR 50,000,000 (≈ USD 3,067) for the boat, which only beats the cabin once the party is large.

Is it worth adding the third day?

Usually, yes. Between a 2D1N and a 3D2N the whole-boat price rises from IDR 90,000,000 (≈ USD 5,521) to IDR 100,000,000 (≈ USD 6,135) for the smallest band, the smallest step on the table, and you gain mantas, the sandbar and Sebayur. The extra day also adds a night of motion.

Will a speedboat day trip see more than the phinisi day trip?

Often the same three stops with more time at each, because it spends less time sailing. The phinisi is slower at 8 to 12 knots. We do not sell a speedboat on this site, so compare it on shore time, not comfort.

Can I do a liveaboard with only one night?

Yes, the 2D1N: one night aboard, bats at Kalong on day one and sunrise at Padar on day two. It is a whole-boat charter from IDR 90,000,000 (≈ USD 5,521). For a cabin by itself you need the 3D2N open trip.

Does a longer trip cost less per day?

Yes. At ten guests the 4D3N works out to IDR 12,500,000 (≈ USD 767) each, and the 3D2N to IDR 10,500,000 (≈ USD 644). The total rises with the length, and the cost per day falls. Add the beach dinner that comes with the 4D3N and the longer trip looks better still, though the time off work is the real price.
