Komodo 2 days 1 night on Vinca: bats at dusk, Padar at dawn
Updated 10 October 2026
The 2D1N on Vinca sets off at 09:30 for Kelor and Manjarite, then stops for the bats at Kalong before a night on board. Next morning you climb Padar at sunrise, and the trip ends at Komodo, with the boat back between 18:00 and 19:00. Whole-boat prices run from IDR 90,000,000 (≈ USD 5,521) to IDR 100,000,000 (≈ USD 6,135).
Day one: Kelor, Manjarite and the bats
We collect you at 09:30 from your hotel or the airport, and the first stop is Kelor, 50 to 70 minutes from the harbour, for a short climb up a steep, dry hill. Lunch is back on board. Then it's snorkelling at Manjarite and a snack before the run to Kalong for sunset.
At dusk the flying foxes pour out of the mangroves in a long stream that lasts roughly half an hour. They start about 15 minutes after sunset, and you watch from the boat rather than the shore. Then it's dinner. The brochure advises a motion tablet before any overnight leg, and we'd say the same: if you're prone to seasickness, take one with dinner.
Between stops, the sundeck is the place to be. Lunch is your first meal at the long table. The crossing from Kelor to Manjarite takes 30 to 60 minutes, and Manjarite to Kalong 50 to 70. Put reef-safe sunscreen on before you snorkel, not after. Treat the clock times as a guide, because the tide can shift them.

These stops swap order with tide and wind: Manta Point ⇄ Taka Makassar.
Times are operating patterns, not a timetable. Pickup is the only promise we make by the clock.
The night: at anchor or on the move, the captain decides
At 3 to 4 hours, the leg from Kalong to Padar is the longest of the trip, and the legs table marks it as an overnight leg. Whether the boat anchors near Padar first or makes the crossing in the night depends on the weather and on the captain's call on the day. You'll hear it most on the lower deck and feel the swell most on the upper deck, which rolls the most. The main deck is the compromise.
The brochure doesn't name the anchorage, so neither do we; the captain picks it according to wind and swell. If where you sleep matters to you, ask the desk before you book and we'll tell you what we know.
Take the motion tablet before dinner, not once the boat is already moving. If you're on the lower deck, earplugs are worth packing.

Day two: Padar at sunrise, then Pink Beach and Komodo
Guests usually head ashore about 65 minutes before sunrise, with a headtorch and sturdy shoes. Sunrise is around 06:18 in July and 05:31 in November, so the wake-up call shifts through the year. It's 25 to 45 minutes' climb to the main viewpoint.
After breakfast and lunch on board, you snorkel at Pink Beach and then trek on Komodo with a ranger. The day finishes on the sand at Taka Makassar or, if the tide says otherwise, snorkelling at Manta Point. It's one or the other, never both, and the captain chooses on the day. You're back at the harbour between 18:00 and 19:00.
Pink Beach is a pale pink rather than a bright one, and the colour changes with the light and the tide. The dragons are wild and you walk the Komodo trail with a ranger, so closed shoes matter more than a camera strap. There's little shade on the trails.
What one night can't cover
Two days and one night split the park in two. Kelor and Kalong are on day one, Padar and Komodo on day two, and the second afternoon ends with either the sandbar or the mantas. To swim with mantas and stand on the sandbar as well, you need a third day.
It's a brisk pace. Day two packs a sunrise climb, a snorkel, a trek and a late return into one long stretch, which asks a lot of small children and of anyone who sleeps badly on boats. If you have one night and want the whole park, it won't fit; that's what the 3D2N is for.
On a private 2D1N the tour guide and the photo documentation are not in the fare. Ask the desk when you book if you want either, and they are quoted as a separate line.
Price and what it covers
Chartering the whole boat for a 2D1N costs IDR 90,000,000 (≈ USD 5,521) for the smallest guest band, IDR 95,000,000 (≈ USD 5,828) for the middle one and IDR 100,000,000 (≈ USD 6,135) for the largest. Beyond that, each extra guest up to 18 pays IDR 4,000,000 (≈ USD 245). With ten guests it's IDR 9,500,000 (≈ USD 583) each.
The fare covers pickup, a night in your cabin, all meals, afternoon coffee or tea, soft drinks, snorkelling gear and the paddleboards. Park fees are extra: IDR 250,000 per foreign guest per day and IDR 50,000 per Indonesian guest, plus the ranger fee and other levies. Alcohol, crew tips and flights are up to you.
A deposit of 50 percent holds your date, and the balance is due 30 days before you sail.

FAQ
Where do we sleep on the 2D1N?
In your own cabin on Vinca. The legs table marks the 3 to 4 hour run from Kalong to Padar as an overnight leg: whether the boat anchors first or makes the crossing during the night depends on the weather and the captain's call on the day. The brochure names no anchorage, and we're not going to invent one.
Do we get both Manta Point and Taka Makassar?
No. The last stop on day two is one or the other, chosen on the day according to tide and current. Manta Point is a drift snorkel in a strong current; Taka Makassar is a sandbar that appears at low tide. If you want both, book the 3D2N.
How early is the Padar climb on a 2D1N?
You leave the boat about 65 minutes before sunrise. In July, when the sun comes up around 06:18, that's an early alarm; in November, with sunrise at 05:31, it's earlier still. The climb itself takes 25 to 45 minutes to the main viewpoint.
Is the 2D1N sold as a shared cabin?
No. It's a whole-boat charter, from IDR 90,000,000 (≈ USD 5,521). Only the 3D2N is sold cabin by cabin, departing on Monday & Friday. For two people, the open trip costs IDR 8,500,000 (≈ USD 521) each, while the 2D1N charter comes to IDR 45,000,000 (≈ USD 2,761) each.
