Komodo corporate retreat boat: a team off the network for three days

Updated 10 October 2026

Vinca Deluxe Phinisi is a corporate charter for teams who want three days without email: one long table, a lounge with TV, a sundeck and a crew of 7. The 3D2N whole-boat price is IDR 105,000,000 (≈ USD 6,442) for six to ten guests. It has only patchy local Wi-Fi, with no satellite link, and no meeting room.

What a retreat on a phinisi is good for

A phinisi works for a team when the goal is time together, not a programme. Everyone eats at one long table. The sundeck has bean bags and umbrellas, the lounge is air-conditioned with a sofa, bar, TV and karaoke set, and the open galley lets the group watch the chef work. People who have never spoken in the office end up beside each other at dinner on the first night.

Patchy signal does half the facilitation. The boat's Wi-Fi is a local hotspot off mobile signal, with no satellite link, so it works near Labuan Bajo and only in patches between islands. Phones go in pockets. That is the single best argument for the boat, and it is also the single reason some companies decide against it. If your team needs to be reachable, say so now.

It is not a conference venue. There is no projector room, no whiteboard wall and no reliable Wi-Fi for a video call. The lounge TV is for karaoke and films.

Group size, pricing and the invoice

Private charters are priced by guest band, not by cabin. For 3D2N: one to five guests pay IDR 100,000,000 (≈ USD 6,135), six to ten pay IDR 105,000,000 (≈ USD 6,442), eleven to fourteen pay IDR 110,000,000 (≈ USD 6,748). Above fourteen, each extra guest adds IDR 5,000,000 (≈ USD 307), up to 18 guests. At full load the crew ratio is 1 crew per 2.6 guests.

The price includes 11 percent VAT, meals, soft drinks, snorkelling gear, the two stand-up paddleboards. A tour guide and photo documentation are not in the charter fare; the desk adds them on request. It excludes national park fees (IDR 250,000 per international guest per day), flights, hotels in Labuan Bajo, alcohol and tips. Park fees are paid separately and the rates can change.

The reservation is secured by a 50 percent deposit, with the balance due 30 days before sailing. We take card payment links, Wise, Revolut, PayPal (a fee of 7.2 percent applies), QRIS, Alipay and bank transfer. Ask the desk for the payment option that suits your finance team.

How to use the three days

The boat is easiest to run for a team on 3D2N. Day one is sailing and snorkelling toward the central park, day two is Padar at sunrise, Pink Beach, the Komodo trail and Kalong at dusk, and day three is a slow morning at Kelor and a drop-off by late morning.

Build the programme around meals. The long table is the room where talks happen, so decide who sits where on night one and mix it on night two. Keep the karaoke for night two. Keep the paddleboards for an hour at Pink Beach, since there are only two.

The Padar climb is optional and physical. A team that includes people with knee or heart conditions should plan an alternative for that morning. Tell the guide the evening before.

  • Group of up to 14: price band applies.
  • Group of 15 to 18: extra-guest rate applies.
  • Seasickness: see the cabin guide before assigning rooms.

Times are operating patterns, not a timetable. Pickup is the only promise we make by the clock.

When a company should look elsewhere

If your event needs a presentation screen, reliable internet, a quiet room for calls or a fixed headcount of more than 18, charter a hotel venue instead. If your guests include people who cannot manage steps between three decks, the boat has no lift. And if your policy forbids a weather-dependent itinerary, note that stops can change for weather, currents and park or port decisions.

We are the right boat for a leadership offsite, a sales reward or a small team that wants distance from its inbox. Tell us the headcount, the month and who is paying for what. We will price it and say what the budget leaves out.

Money is the last check. A deposit of 50 percent secures the dates, and a refund after cancellation depends on notice. Finance teams should read the cancellation table on the booking page before approving a purchase order, because the balance falls due 30 days before sailing and nothing about weather changes that.

Who this boat suits

  • Couples who want a bathtub at sea: the Western rooms on the main deck.
  • Guests who want a tatami table, big sea windows and a balcony strip: the Japanese rooms on the upper deck.
  • Families sharing a Balinese room with an extra bed, with children under 3 travelling free.
  • Groups of up to 18 who want a whole 31 m phinisi with 6 ensuite air-conditioned cabins and 7 crew.
  • Snorkellers and paddleboarders who want sunset on the sundeck and a fixed 3D2N departure on Monday & Friday.

Who it does not suit

  • Divers who need a compressor and tanks aboard: this is a snorkel boat.
  • Anyone who needs reliable internet at sea: Wi-Fi is local only, no satellite link.
  • Guests who need a stabilised steel hull, stabilisers or a lift between the three decks.
  • Anyone expecting a jacuzzi on deck.

When this is the wrong boat

  • You have one night and want the whole park: the 2D1N puts Kelor and Kalong on day one and Padar and Komodo on day two, with only one of Manta Point or Taka Makassar.
  • You book a Balinese room expecting a balcony or sea-view windows: it has portholes on the lower deck.
  • You are a light sleeper on the lower deck: engine noise is strongest there.

FAQ

Can a company get an invoice with VAT shown?

Yes. Prices include 11 percent VAT, and we issue an invoice for the booking. Tell the desk the legal name and tax details when you book. Payment by bank transfer, card link, Wise or Revolut is accepted, with a 50 percent deposit to secure the dates.

What is the maximum corporate group size?

Up to 18 guests. Prices cover up to fourteen guests in three bands, and each guest above fourteen adds IDR 5,000,000 (≈ USD 307) on the 3D2N route. The boat has 6 cabins, so confirm the sleeping plan with the desk, since some guests will share rooms and extra beds.

Is there Wi-Fi for a video call?

Not reliably. The local Wi-Fi runs off mobile signal, with no satellite link, so it works near Labuan Bajo and only in patches between islands. If a call is unavoidable, plan it for the morning you board at 09:30 or the morning you land, and give your team the unreachable dates in writing before the trip begins.

What if the trip is cancelled because of weather?

Destinations can change without notice for weather, currents and park or port decisions, and the captain reorders stops. If Vinca cannot sail on your date because of a mechanical fault or a port or park order, you sail on a phinisi of the same class or higher for the same dates at no extra cost, or take a full refund within 14 days. If you cancel, the refund depends on the notice: 50 percent at sixty days or more, 25 percent from thirty to fifty-nine days.

How are dietary needs handled for a team?

Tell the desk about allergies and dietary needs when you book, so the chef can plan. Meals, soft drinks, and coffee or tea with a snack are provided each day. There is one chef working in an open galley for up to 18 guests, and alcohol is excluded from the fare, so teams bring their own.
